You are the control-room operator of a 40 MW wind power plant. Tune its power plant controller (PPC) so the plant keeps the grid code while the wind and the grid keep changing, and earn as much as you can in one shift.
Eight 5 MW turbines in two 33 kV strings of four, connected through a 132/33 kV transformer to the grid at the point of connection (POC). The PPC measures voltage, active and reactive power at the POC and sends set-points to the turbines.
Maximise revenue and handle events well. Your score is in points:
| + €65/MWh | Energy delivered at the POC while the plant complies with the grid code. |
| Not paid | Voltage: POC voltage outside 0.95–1.05 pu for 5 s (or beyond ±10 % for 1 s). |
| Not paid | Frequency support: when frequency is more than 50 mHz from 50 Hz, the plant must deliver at least 60 % of an 8 % droop response. Short for 10 s → payment suspended. |
| − €200/MWh | Congestion: the TSO orders an export limit. After 60 s, every MWh above it is penalised, and payment is also suspended. |
| Stopped | Voltage collapse: if the grid cannot carry the output, the converters trip. After 1 min press Restart plant. |
Payment resumes 1 minute after the plant is compliant again.
